In his latest article for Observador, Ivo Bernardo argued that Portugal must go beyond outsourcing and embrace a bold, product-driven innovation in AI.

Ivo Bernardo, co-founder of DareData, published an opinion article in Observador titled “O país do talento precisa de ser o país da inovação.”

In the piece, Ivo challenges Portugal to shift its mindset, from a country known for exporting talent to one that leads in building global technology products. Ivo highlighted that while the talent is already here, what’s missing are the ambitious projects, risk-tolerant structures, and innovation-driven companies needed to keep it here.

Ivo highlighted the need for less bureaucracy, stronger incentives for R&D, and more support for startups that want to create intellectual property and scale internationally, and argued that Portugal, with its agility and strategic location, has all the conditions to lead in AI, if it chooses to.
